Just hours before their Thursday Night Football matchup against the New York Jets, the New England Patriots made a last-minute roster move by elevating linebacker Joe Giles-Harris to the active roster.

Giles-Harris, a 27-year-old linebacker, spent last season on the Patriots’ practice squad and was a standout defender at Duke. With experience in 17 career NFL games, he previously played for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2019 and 2020, followed by stints with the Buffalo Bills in 2021 and 2022. Over his career, Giles-Harris has accumulated 26 total tackles and one sack.

As the Patriots prepare to face Aaron Rodgers and the Jets, they’ll need their defense to apply pressure and potentially force turnovers. Offensively, New England will need to find balance against a talented Jets’ defense, shifting away from the run-heavy approach they’ve used in the first two games of the season.

While Giles-Harris is likely being elevated for depth, he has a chance to showcase his abilities if given the opportunity to play. His performance could open the door for a more permanent role on the team moving forward.
