The New York Jets have long been considered the most likely destination for Davante Adams since trade rumors began circulating last year, and many now believe a reunion between Adams and Aaron Rodgers is almost certain.

According to a report from SNY’s Connor Hughes, discussions between the Jets and the Las Vegas Raiders about a potential trade for Adams have been ongoing since last week. While no deal has been finalized, the belief around the NFL is that Adams will eventually end up in New York, with Hughes noting that although nothing is imminent, the trade “feels inevitable.”

Adams has reportedly expressed a strong desire to join the Jets, which is understandable given his history with Rodgers. The two were teammates on the Green Bay Packers for eight seasons, from 2014 to 2021, and formed one of the league’s most productive quarterback-wide receiver duos. During that time, Adams earned five consecutive Pro Bowl selections, and he and Rodgers developed an undeniable chemistry on the field.

Adams initially forced a trade from Green Bay to the Las Vegas Raiders, largely because he wanted to reunite with his former college teammate Derek Carr, who played quarterback alongside him at Fresno State. However, after the Raiders parted ways with Carr following the 2022 season, Adams has since expressed some regret over how things unfolded, seemingly leaving the door open for a fresh start. The possibility of reuniting with Rodgers on the Jets, who acquired the quarterback earlier this year, has only fueled speculation that Adams is eyeing a move to New York.

In any potential trade, the Raiders are reportedly seeking a high draft pick along with additional compensation, indicating they are not willing to part with Adams without significant value in return. Adams will likely need to agree to a contract restructure to make the trade financially feasible, giving him some influence over the situation. While the Raiders hold control of the terms, Adams’ willingness to adjust his contract could help expedite a move.

Although the Jets remain the frontrunner in the pursuit of Adams, it’s been reported that he has another team in mind as a potential landing spot should a deal with New York not materialize. Regardless, Adams’ next move seems to be a matter of “when” rather than “if,” as both the player and his prospective new team work toward a resolution that could see him once again catching passes from Aaron Rodgers.
