With the NFL trade deadline fast approaching, the Detroit Lions are exploring options to add an edge rusher, aiming to fill the void left by Aidan Hutchinson’s season-ending injury. Lions fans are understandably hopeful for a marquee addition to the team’s defense, which has sparked rumors and speculative trade scenarios for some high-profile players. Two names frequently mentioned are Maxx Crosby of the Las Vegas Raiders and Myles Garrett of the Cleveland Browns, both of whom would bring an elite level of talent and experience to Detroit’s defensive line.

The dream of acquiring either player comes with its share of complications. Crosby and Garrett are key players for their respective franchises, and there is currently no indication from the Raiders or the Browns that either player is being actively shopped. However, betting odds reflect some optimism that Detroit could potentially land one of them if they become available. According to recent insights from sportsbooks, the Lions are tied with the Chicago Bears for the second-best odds to acquire Garrett, with the Green Bay Packers emerging as the top contenders. Similarly, Detroit is considered the favorite to land Crosby, trailed by teams like the Bears, Packers, Vikings, and Bengals.

Despite the hype around these possibilities, both Garrett and Crosby have indicated that they want to stay put. Crosby, who has voiced his commitment to the Raiders numerous times, reiterated his desire to remain with the team this week, expressing loyalty to the franchise and the “Silver and Black” fanbase. Meanwhile, Garrett has also emphasized that he expects to continue playing in Cleveland, stating that he is prepared to remain a key part of the Browns’ defense.

While it’s unlikely that Detroit will manage to secure either Crosby or Garrett, especially given the vocal commitments of both players to their current teams, the Lions could still be looking for other talented edge rushers as potential trade deadline acquisitions. The team’s determination to strengthen its pass rush and defense is evident as they keep options open, seeking to bolster their chances in a highly competitive NFC North. Even if the dream scenario of adding Garrett or Crosby doesn’t come to fruition, Detroit remains poised to explore all viable paths to improve their lineup.
