Sidney Crosby, the captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins, was chosen as the third overall pick in the All-Star draft on Thursday. Nathan MacKinnon, his neighbor and friend from Nova Scotia and the captain of the Colorado Avalanche, selected Crosby. In addition to Crosby, MacKinnon also picked his Avalanche teammate Cale Makar, forming a star-studded team for the 3v3 tournament.

Despite Team MacKinnon holding a two-goal lead in the final minute of Game 1, they conceded two goals in just 32 seconds to Team Connor McDavid. This included the tying goal by McDavid, ultimately leading to McDavid’s team securing a 4-3 victory.

Team McDavid emerged victorious in the inaugural shootout following the NHL’s transition to three-on-three play. Unfortunately for Sidney Crosby, his All-Star Game concluded swiftly. Nathan MacKinnon contributed two goals, while Oliver Bjorkstrand added another. Boone Jenner, David Pastrnak, and Connor McDavid found the net for Team McDavid.

Despite having multiple promising scoring opportunities, including a breakaway, Crosby was unable to score a goal. Nevertheless, he showcased his playmaking skills with two assists, one of which set up MacKinnon’s breakaway for the first goal of the game. Crosby, however, was thwarted in the shootout, marking the end of his contributions in the All-Star matchup.
