The Philadelphia Eagles are anticipated to add Christian Parker, currently serving as the Denver Broncos‘ defensive backs coach, to their coaching staff. This move aligns with the Eagles’ trend of hiring defensive coaches associated with their new defensive coordinator, Vic Fangio. ESPN’s Dan Graziano reported the expected hiring of Christian Parker.
Christian Parker, aged 32, has served as the defensive backs coach for the Denver Broncos over the last three seasons. His first year with the Broncos in 2021 coincided with Vic Fangio’s final season as the head coach. Prior to joining the Broncos, Parker initiated his NFL coaching career with the Green Bay Packers. Additionally, his coaching experience includes stints at Texas A&M, Notre Dame, William & Mary, Norfolk State, and Virginia State.
While coaching for the Broncos, Parker played a role in developing notable players such as cornerback Pat Surtain II and safety Justin Simmons, contributing to the team’s formidable defenses. In the 2021 season, working under Fangio, the Broncos achieved the third-best scoring defense and ranked eighth in yards allowed. However, in the subsequent season, the Broncos defense dropped to the 29th position in the league.
The Eagles have already made coaching additions, including Clint Hurtt, the former defensive coordinator for the Seattle Seahawks, who will be responsible for coaching the defensive line. Hurtt previously worked under Fangio in Chicago. The Eagles are also bringing in safeties coach Joe Kasper, who was with the team before and joined Fangio in Miami for the 2023 season.
Originally, the Eagles had plans to bring Karl Scott on board to coach their defensive backs, but Scott ultimately decided to remain in Seattle under the leadership of the new head coach, Mike MacDonald.
In recent developments, it was revealed earlier this week that the former Eagles defensive backs coach, D.K. McDonald, who served in that capacity for just one season, accepted the position of co-defensive coordinator at Kansas. The Eagles are still in the process of finding a linebackers coach and have reportedly conducted interviews with former defensive coordinators Joe Barry and Mike Caldwell for the role.
