Saying farewell to a franchise legend is never an easy task, and the Seattle Seahawks have experienced this reality multiple times in recent years with the departures of stars like Richard Sherman, Earl Thomas, Russell Wilson, and Bobby Wagner—twice in Wagner’s case. While the team has managed to remain competitive without these icons, their absences have undeniably left a significant void. Now, another beloved Seahawk, wide receiver Tyler Lockett, might have played his final game in Seattle. Lockett, who has spent his entire 10-year career with the Seahawks, saw his role on offense diminish this season as rookie Jaxon Smith-Njigba emerged. With a cap hit exceeding $30 million in 2025, Lockett is now one of the most likely players to be cut this offseason, marking a bittersweet end to a legendary tenure in Seattle.

Despite being 32 years old, Lockett would likely attract plenty of interest from other teams if he were to leave. One possible destination, which may be unsettling for Seahawks fans, could be the Los Angeles Chargers. Anthony Palacios of Last Word on Sports speculates that Lockett could join the Chargers to complement quarterback Justin Herbert. While the Chargers have a promising offensive roster, they struggled in their Wild Card loss to the Texans, mainly due to a lack of reliable wide receivers. With Joshua Palmer and DJ Chark set to hit free agency, the Chargers might look to bring in a consistent veteran like Lockett on a one-year deal to provide stability to their receiving corps.

In that Wild Card game, rookie Ladd McConkey was the only receiver who performed well, totaling nine catches for 197 yards and a touchdown, while the rest of the Chargers’ receivers combined for just five catches for 45 yards. Although Lockett may not be the player he once was, his experience and reliability could help relieve some pressure from McConkey and contribute to the Chargers’ offense.

While Lockett never faced Chargers’ head coach Jim Harbaugh, who left the San Francisco 49ers a year before Lockett’s arrival in the NFL, the possibility of the two joining forces could feel strange, especially in a division already featuring former Seahawks coach Pete Carroll. Nonetheless, if Lockett were to move to the Chargers, it would certainly be an interesting and somewhat unexpected turn for both the player and the Seahawks’ fanbase.
